When 12-year-old Jimmy Rourke travels to the Hydroverse, a watery universe nourished by streams of starlight, he becomes the Chimaera—a hero with the combined powers of the Animal Kingdom.

To prevent the cataclysmic Big Freeze, Jimmy goes on a mission guided by Speck, a talking spider, and the mysterious sorceress Elane. Danger lurks in the Temple of Champions, the Council of animal ambassadors is divided, and it’s up to Jimmy to protect an endless ocean of life.

Jimmy befriends ambassadors of different species, discovers living breathing dinosaurs, battles enormous insects, and learns about animal science by mimicking the most incredible creatures on Earth. On his journey, Jimmy grapples with issues of trust, self-control, and problem-solving in a complex world that often misleads him.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kevin M. Folliard is a Chicagoland fiction writer with a degree in English and creative writing from the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. His published fiction includes the scary stories collections Christmas Terror Tales and Valentine Terror Tales, the dark fantasy novel Jake Carter & the Nightmare Gallery, and the young adult horror adventure Violet Black & the Curse of Camp Coldwater. Folliard’s work has appeared in Sanitarium Magazine, and he has also worked on films and web series for the Champaign based studio Neon Harbor, including the acclaimed videogame parody Press Start series.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: J.T. Molloy is a Chicago area artist and post production editor. Recent works include Christmas Terror Tales, Valentine Terror Tales, and his action adventure graphic novel The Sapphire Spectre. This month, I had the privilege of once again participating in Chicago’s 48 Hour Film Project with the always awesome Team Kick A Rock!

“The 48” randomly assigns each group a genre, prop, line of dialogue, and character to make a short film within 2 days. We had a fantastic crew, and I co-scripted with my frequent collaborator the excellent JT Molloy. I’m pleased to announce that our film Home Invasion won an audience choice award as well as best graphics!
